The Price is Right

If you find yourself swinging on someone’s porch in an old chair from the now-defunct Priest Creek Chairlift, thank him or her for contributing to local nonprofits. In August, Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp. auctioned off chairs from the venerable lift, its oldest, with all funds going to area nonprofits. In all, its 125 chairs raised more than $200,000 for various organizations, with people bidding anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000 for the right to plant their butts on a piece of Steamboat history.

“We are extremely proud of the impact the auction will have on our community,” says resort COO Rob Perlman. “To be able to share these historic pieces of the resort while donating to nonprofit organizations is the best possible scenario.” Just don’t let it hit you in the legs when sitting down.
